Yarn Examining Machine winds yarn onto a standard black board to check the yarn for irregularities, neps and impurities, evenness and hairiness, and judges its appearance quality by eye. The yarn examining tester is suitable to check cotton, man-made fibre, blended, wool and linen yarns.

2. How The Yarn Examining Machine Works

The yarn is fixed on the yarn frame first, and its tension is adjusted to suit the yarn being tested. The yarn examining then winds the yarn onto the black board at a set constant speed. After set the tension, the yarn examining tester keeps the winding speed steady to the end of the board. The operator watches the board as it fills, and the yarn’s faults are easy to see.

The black colour of the board gives strong contrast. Light yarns stand out clearly against it, which helps the operator inspect the yarn by eye. Neps and impurities show as small specks, unevenness shows as thick and thin places, and hairiness shows as a soft edge along the yarn. For dark-coloured yarns, a white backing board is available as an option, so the same clear view is kept.
